NYT Article: Scientology Denies Any Involvement in Trump’s Commutation of David Gentile’s Prison Sentence

In a New York Times article published today, Church spokesperson David Bloomberg denied that the Church of Scientology played any role in President Trump commuting the seven year prison sentence of David Gentile.

“There was absolutely no involvement whatsoever from the church in the commutation,” said David Bloomberg, a spokesman for the Church of Scientology.

Like the Kremlin, the Church of Scientology lies in very precise ways. While the Church of Scientology International, as a  corporation, played no public role in the Gentile commutation, our sources state that particular Scientologists in the Trumposphere, acting as individuals, had everything to do with it. Pardons and commutations in the Trump era are transactional instruments and justice for the victims, or punishment for criminals, means nothing.

That the Church’s denial came from David Bloomberg is crucial as he is a high-ranking long-time member of Miscavige’s inner circle.

Senior Church execs David Bloomberg, Marc Yager and Jenny Linson Devocht infamously ambushed former RTC I/G Ethics Marty Rathbun at LAX in 2014. Rathbun later defected back into Scientology. The Gentile denial indicates David Bloomberg has not fallen out of favor with Miscavige as a public-facing exec.

It is worth noting that Miscavige did not choose his personal attorney Monique Yingling, a non-Scientologist who usually handles these things, to issue the denial. Yingling appeared on CNN on Miscavige’s behalf when Anderson Cooper did his series on Scientology. Her excessive blinking on camera was widely noted.

The NYT reported on the CNN story and Scientology’s outrage.

A partial list of Scientologists who are connected and wealthy Trump supporters and donors: Trump’s  lawyer John Coale and his wife Greta van Susteren; Trish Duggan; Bob Duggan; Grant and Elena Cardone; Scientology’s DC lobbyist Greg Mitchell and his wife Renee Bessone; Gary Cardone who donated $850,000 in Bitcoin (12.8 coins) to Trump in 2024; energy entrepreneurs Tom Cummins and Jim Bridgeforth; and the list continues for another article.

David Gentile’s convicted criminal co-defendant Jeffry Schneider did not receive a Presidential commutation of his six-year prison sentence.

It appears that Jeffry Schneider has been left holding the bag for Gentile’s crimes. Schneider is scheduled to do hard time when he surrenders in January 2026. Will the Gentile commutation cause Schneider to think about flipping and giving the Feds dirt on Gentile to put him away?

We think so.

Schneider already saw GPB Capital co-founder Jeff Lash walk away without doing any time after he cooperated and testified against Gentile and Schneider.

GPB Capital’s former CFO Michael Cohn, who left the SEC to work at GPB Capital, flipped and did house arrest. Cohn was indicted, and later plead guilty, for accessing SEC data on its investigation into GPB Capital. Cohn was alleged to have given the data to Gentile as part of obtaining a high-paying job with the firm. Cohn was originally charged with felony obstruction and pled down after cooperating.

It appears David Gentile threw Jeffy Schneider under the bus once their sentences were handed down. Gentile took care of himself and left Schneider to his own devices. This appears to be a clear case of “every man for himself” once prison time became a reality.

To clarify: Scientologist David Gentile was not pardoned; his sentence was commuted and so he does not have to serve prison time. However, the five felonies of which he was convicted remain on his record.

Gentile, Schneider, and others in the GPB Capital criminal scheme still face numerous civil lawsuits including those filed  by the SEC and eight States Attorneys General.
