Scientology Cult PR likes to present PAC Base on L. Ron Hubbard Way as a gleaming jewel in Los Angeles. This section of road was originally named Berendo Street and is situated between Sunset Blvd. and Fountain Avenue. The building that is now Pac Base was Cedars of Lebanon Hospital. Built in 1930 as a charity hospital, Cedars closed the facility down and relocated to Cedars Sinai in West LA. Cedars then sold the aging facility to Scientology in 1976. In the early 1990’s, Scientology petitioned the City of Los Angeles to change the name of the street to L. Ron Hubbard Way.
Despite is glossy photoshopped PR photos, the reality is that Pac Base’s location in East Hollywood blends into the dense urban landscape. When seen from the next street over in the parking lot of Wendy’s, Pac Base is a bland 94-year-old building maintained by Sea Org slave labor:

A period postcard below shows the original Cedars of Lebanon Hospital which was purchased by the Scientology Cult in 1977 for a reported $10 million dollars in cash. Scientologist and local real estate mogul Marshall Goldblatt donated the $10 million. Goldblatt was an interesting figure. He had received electroshock treatment but was nevertheless allowed into Scientology because money is greater than a past psychiatric history. Goldblatt was even allowed onto the OT levels.

Below: The official Los Angeles document that changed the name from Berendo Street to L. Ron Hubbard Way. There are numerous letters of support for the name change from Scientologists. These letters gush with praise for L. Ron Hubbard.

Wow! That was very interesting, especially the part related to Arnaldo Lerma.
I don’t get it for the life of me. The cult presents itself as a legitimate religion/church. And, alas, they have the tax exemption to back it up. So in an age where cross displays on public lang are verboten, manger scenes are off the menu and even Christmas and its trees have to be referred to as Season this and Winter that, LA has a street named after a “religious leader!” Imagine the outrage that would come were one to propose Buddha Blvd, Allah Ave or Christ Court (all of which incidentally sound a lot better).
In a far-left city where any public displays of religiosity are a no-go, how is this even possible? El Con Way? No way!
Blast (what a horrible thought though) from the past.
L. Ron (Xenu caused the Wall of Fire) Hubbard getting his own street named after him.
What a loon to get a street in their false honor.
They citizens in the know should start giving this street a new nickname:
XENU STREET
or maybe
BODY-THETANS-EXORCISM STREET
Because at the Advanced Organization of Los Angeles sub unit of Scientology, that’s where Xenu is finally “explained” (poorly) by Hubbard in the “OT 3 Course” that the rich dupes finally reach that level.
EXORCISM OF XENU’S R6 IMPLANTED BODY-THETANS STREET, might be a bit too long.
Just maybe public nickname it “Xenu Street” for L. Ron Hubbard.

PS: I read the whole PDF file, Jeffrey, probably one of the few who will ever see this doc. Thanks a lot. A huge number of the names “for” the Street name change, I recognize.
Fun fact: The glossy “photo” of big blue shows the sun setting in the SOUTH! Thanks so much for posting this big doc!
