  2. One cannot compare apple and oranges but the calculation is spot on. I left the SO after some 20+ years of service, utterly broke and with no retirement plan. Now after working the same amount of time in the real world, doing just a regular job I enjoyed, I have $70,000 in savings, took care of my health and I can retire with a decent pension. I do not regret my years in the SO, though I wish I had left sooner, but at least I won’t have to spend my old years in utter poverty as the SO would have spat me out without a thanks nor a goodbye. Not rewarding decently your staff, not providing professional medical care, breaking up couples and other duresses are not the way to a better world. Never had, never will be.
