This is an important fact, the gizmo is used by Scientology to detect bodiless souls, and then the gizmo is also used to supposedly show the elimination (exorcism/soul-freeing) of those bodiness souls.

Further tie in, that is important to grasp, is Hubbard believed these invisible bodiless souls (called “body-thetans” by Hubbard) leak their soul bad messed up memories which were implanted into those souls by Xenu, during the Xenu trauma incident.
Per Hubbard’s poorly described sketchy telling of the Xenu incident, which Hubbard says happened 75 million years ago here on earth, Xenu the distant bad guy space leader first mass murdered the humanoids whose bodies were destroyed during the “Wall of Fire” part of the trauma “engram”, this “Wall of Fire” occuring here on earth. Then following this “Wall of Fire” mass murdering of the humanoids the souls were ejected and were “implanted” by Xenu with false and messed up soul memories for 36 and 1/2 days after the mass murdering “Wall of Fire” trauma.
Today, these messed up invisible souls, “body-thetans”, infest all humans, like hitchhiking surplus souls which leak their trauma soul memories additionally into our soul minds.

Important distinctions, the soul memories bugging us, could be either our own soul memories, or the leaking soul memories of the “body-thetans” which infest each of us today.
Scientology is a double whammy, two tier, supposedly, debilitating soul memories pseudo-therapy/exorcism (soul-freeing), to eliminate, supposedly, ALL of the nagging past lives and our “body-thetans” soul memories, ultimately, from us.
